First Blog Post

Introduction

Hi! I'm Berelian. I've decided to make this blog because as a high schooler there is only so much I can do to make my voice heard. Social media is a great outlet; however, my words only ever reach a certain audience and only so much can be said per post. I hope to express my thoughts here in weekly posts about my political opinions, daily experiences, and some miscellaneous interests. The reason I started to consider making a blog was actually very random. Just recently, I was procrastinating on studying, so I decided to watch a little bit of the Lorax. The last time I watched it was when I was pretty young, so the general gist I had from it and what I think a lot of people get from it is the importance of trees and our environment. Upon watching it, however, I realized it's really a critique of capitalism. I had only watched about 20 minutes of it and already had a whole analysis in my head. I wanted to write it out so bad and discuss it with anyone who was willing. My first instinct was to go to twitter, but you can't really write more than a paragraph to keep people interested in a tweet (and I only have 39 followers who aren't exactly the most interactive). So, I thought about writing in a journal, but who could I share that with? Anyways, after lots of thinking, I decided this would be the best option. Really anyone can read my writing here, so it would bring the most variety in thought. I've had a bit of trouble keeping up longterm projects, so this will be challenging. Last summer, I spent a month in China and thought the best way to capture my experience was to write about it in a journal that I could look back to. I did keep a routine for a while, but just like I'd predicted, I gave up. I'm so grateful for the days I did write in my journal because I love going back and reliving one of the most culturally immersive things I have ever experienced (more to come on that). For now, this will all be a learning process for me and any feedback would be very much appreciated. Hope you enjoy!
